Another piece from a commission for the OPW of seven large portraits of Blasket Islanders along with a number of other images for The Blasket Centre, Dún Chaoin.
Appearing oversized down the Slí in the centre, my Scraperboards can be seen alongside the works of two other artists.
This is Gearóid Ó Cathain (b.1947)
dubbed “the loneliest boy in the world” when journalist Liam Robinson visited the island with photographer Don MacMonagle at Christmas 1948. He was the only child living on the island.
Open to the public now, my seven images can be viewed along with another nineteen or so smaller works of mine that were also commissioned for the OPW.
